Larry Scott press

Larry Scott press exercise is a little-known but effective isolated exercise for developing the middle bunch of deltas. It was invented by one of the first Mr. Olympia Larry Scott.

As the athlete himself said, thanks to this particular exercise, he was able to develop his shoulders to an incredible size, which ultimately helped him win the title.

"It was this exercise that made me a champion. Even now, when I write these lines, I feel in the deltas echoes of past pain. Sweet pain, I must say."

When performed correctly, Larry Scott's bench press isolates and perfectly pumps the middle beam. To perform, you will need two dumbbells with a moderate weight. A very strict technique is required for the exercise, so we take a working weight of about 50 percent of the working weight in the seated dumbbell press. The Larry Scott bench press is somewhat similar to the standard dumbbell bench press, but with its own characteristics, it is more isolated for deltoids.

 

 

Larry Scott Seated Press Technique

- You can perform it standing or sitting, we take weights in our hands, it will be most convenient to adjust the weight with dumbbells

- We tilt the brushes inward so that the little fingers are higher than the thumbs. The position of the dumbbells cannot be changed, this is important. In such a curious position of the hands lies the main secret of the exercise. When the dumbbells are tilted inward, the triceps are "off" from work. In all other presses, the delts share the load with the triceps.

- Raise the dumbbells above your head, but do not straighten your elbows completely. When you straighten your arms, your delts "turn off" The bent elbows in our exercise do not allow the deltoids to relax during the entire set.

- Keep your elbows as far back as possible. If you bring your elbows together at least a little, the load will move from the middle to the front bunch of deltas!

- The reverse movement should be done slowly. When the elbows are in a straight line, hold for a moment and try to lower the elbows lower to stretch the middle beam. Then return to the starting position and start moving up again.

It is recommended to start the exercise with a light weight in order to learn it. The movement must be very clear.

It will be better if, before starting the exercise, you stand in front of a mirror, take a dumbbell in one hand, and place the palm of the other hand directly on the working delta. You will see for yourself that the delta literally turns to stone precisely when the movement is performed correctly.

 

Conclusions

In those days when Larry Scott achieved excellent volumes, there was really no pharmacology. And if this outstanding athlete considers this exercise to be almost the main one for the development of large and prominent shoulders, you should definitely heed his advice and include this movement in your deltoid training. Therefore, it is worth trying to include this movement in your training.
